- working principle:
 
The silica in the water sample reacts with the molybdate ion under acidic conditions to form a silicomolybdic acid complex. Adding oxalic acid destroys the phosphate complex. The addition of ferrous ammonium sulfate reagent turns the yellow silicomolybdic acid into blue, and the measurement is performed at a wavelength of 815 nm to detect the color change of the sample. The color depth is proportional to the silica concentration. Therefore, the colorimetric analysis method can be used to detect and calculate the concentration of silica.
