- product description

Great Lakes International (GLI) is a new member of Hach Company of the United States and has been dedicated to providing online water quality analysis and advanced testing instruments for water supply, sewage and industrial process control for more than 30 years since 1970. And passed the ISO9001 certification in 1992.

The 5500 series dissolved oxygen sensors produced by GLI are used with GLI's D63, D53, D33 and PRO-D3 dissolved oxygen analyzers or transmitters.

It is characterized by an integrated and replaceable membrane head assembly, which simplifies the cumbersome and time-consuming operation of replacing a new membrane. Since each component includes a pre-installed membrane, electrolyte and electrode, the replacement of the component will be able to supplement the consumables required by the sensor. The sensor uses a three-electrode Clark measurement technique. The third electrode has higher accuracy and stability due to better long-term polarization. Self-cleaning options include a cleaning system through compressed air, and can be programmed to automatically clean the sensor film.

- typical application

Mainly used for dissolved oxygen detection in urban sewage and industrial wastewater treatment plants. Typical applications include

Aeration tank, aerobic / anaerobic digestion tank, factory water. It is also suitable for the determination of dissolved oxygen in various water bodies such as natural water, sewage and brine.

-Instrument characteristics

GLI's 5500 series dissolved oxygen sensor uses polarographic Clark cell technology and consists of a three-electrode system: a gold cathode, a silver anode, and a silver reference electrode. The silver reference electrode is polarized with a constant voltage to stabilize the voltage, so that the treated electrode has a more stable potential than the traditional two-electrode system because it does not generate enough current to interfere with the D.O. measurement. The voltage-stabilizing design of the reference electrode keeps the long-term polarization stability during its service life, which makes the GLI sensor have higher accuracy and stability.

- Advantage

The 5500 series dissolved oxygen sensors produced by GLI are used with GLI's D63, D53, D33 and PRO-D3 dissolved oxygen analyzers or transmitters.

- working principle

The working principle of the 5500 series dissolved oxygen sensor is: a small chamber with two metal electrodes inserted in the sensor and filled with electrolyte is closed with a selective membrane. Water and soluble substance ions cannot penetrate this layer of film, but oxygen and a certain amount of other gases and hydrophilic substances can penetrate this layer of film, and the sensor can be immersed in water to measure dissolved oxygen. The potential difference between the electrodes due to the action of the galvanic cell or the applied voltage causes metal ions to enter the solution at the anode, and the oxygen that has passed through the membrane is reduced at the cathode. The resulting current is directly proportional to the transfer rate of the dissolved oxygen in the electrolyte through the membrane, so the current is proportional to the partial pressure of oxygen in the water sample at a given temperature.
